As a person who’s grown up with YouTube, I can definitely see the shift that has happened. I remember being 11 years old watching videos like “Super Mario Frustration” on the platform. A type of video that wouldn’t fly today. Now I’m watching 20+ minute Game Theory videos and last night watched a 43 minute NileRed video. I’ve been telling people that TikTok is cringe because of the type of videos that get popular there, only to now realize you’re 100% right; TikTok is just young YouTube. Eventually TikTok will become the current day YouTube, which makes me wonder what YouTube will be in 15+ years.

On the topic of shorts content on YouTube: Given that YouTube has the power of Google ads behind it, I think it will always be king in a financial sense. YouTube Shorts is already struggling to figure out a viable way to pay creators for making shorts and it is no surprise because the biggest short player in the room – Tiktok – hasn’t even got it figured out yet. The YouTube Shorts creator fund is merely to buy more time since it’s not exactly easy to monetize content with ads that are 1/4 – 1/2 the length of the content the person is watching. And banner ads don’t earn enough to be worthwhile. I know they are trying really hard to make it right, and I strongly believe that YouTube may be the only one to be able to do it correctly, but to most creators it feels like they stumbled through the dark with shorts leaving some creators burned and others wondering how it will all work out. YouTube is rocketing forward on a train and laying down the track right in front of it hoping they will make it to their destination.
Streaming on youtube is exploding, just look at Valkyrae and Vtubers, Doc, etc… I don’t think youtube will ever stop being relevant.

Yeah. As we grow it feels more cumbersome to stay seated clicking and instead you just leave them running in the background while you work on something else i think that’s why longer videos have seen a resurgence in 2021 on young adult audience

This is why I want to start my own thing like peer tube
Kinda. Rather than value accountability (cause most businesses are toxic and unsustainable to be honest), businesses are more likely to censor “both sides”…and anything remotely related to them. (Like “Covid” or “LGBT”)
Which when you combine the sheer number of vids, manipulation of algorithms, and how sometimes one “side” is literally “the grass is green”, which as shown in standard media biases information to the “nope, the grass is black”…can turns platforms into “boomer” mentality.
I want to swear as much as I want to in my videos and streams. That’s my personality and the way I am. It shouldn’t be on me to watch myself simply because somebody isn’t willing to be a parent/guardian to a child. It’s not my fault their child is watching me, I’m just making the content I want to and like to do. There’s phone settings, family accounts, and YouTube kids for a reason.

Blessed to have been in The House Nobody Asked For, which finally made me realize that EVERYTHING is business nowadays. The good thing is, business can still be so fun. Growing up, I’m FINALLY becoming more interested in business while still being able to entertain and enjoy with my friends. This video is the perfect explanation of the future of social media.

Yeah I see the shift too and I’ve seen stories of big Youtubers who refused to evolve ultimately lost their touch.
Yeah, I remember when I consistently watch the London youtubers back then and now I feel like they’re nobody. I visited their channel and they’re still doing the same they are doing.
