DRINKING NASTY SWAMP WATER (to save the world)

While I’m normally a physics guy, got to give the chemists out there props on this one. Also props to Bill and Melinda Gates for partnering with me on this video. Check out their 2019 annual letter here- http://gatesletter.org/

Summary: I used some powder that has a flocculant in it to make swampy water drinkable. This can be used in situations where people don’t have access to drinking water. Then I met up with Bill Gates and we talked about why we should help poor countries.

I mean it would’ve been nice to have seen. Some people are trying to learn more about the guy whether it’s for school or for personal interest. This video showed a very positive side of Bill so I think the people who want to learn about him would really benefit from seeing this. And he was a large part of the video. Nothing wrong with using something/someone in the thumbnail if they’re actually in the video for a long time.

    • SapphireStarlite says:

+Tommy M. That is true, but people who are learning would usually not be biased by hearing just one’s method to fix something big from someone who is big in their work.

You search around and find gems like this one, which help you feel you’re on the right path to what you want to know.

Hey Mark quick question for you. Would these packets clean salt water?

    • ReudenSplasher says:

    • alexanderx33 says:

No they would not. Coagulation-flocculation-sedimentation and oxidative disinfection do not remove dissolved ionic compounds by any significant fraction. The former acts upon negative surface charges of larger non-soluble particles and the latter oxidizes cell membranes and other suseptible organic molecules and proteins. To make saltwater drinkable you need one of two things, reverse osmosis or distillation. There may be a way to do it with ion exchange resins but I doubt it.

    • Average Thinking says:

It would clean it but it wouldn’t be drinkable, that is, it wouldn’t remove the salt

Also what about heavy metals and possible toxins?
