I’m sure many people don’t believe her when she says she didn’t know what was going (w/Serena and the umpire) but it’s actually very natural for an Asian person to “walk away” from someone else’s embarrassing situation especially if they are someone you respect or revere. Give her credit for protecting Serena’s legacy even when she could have easily torn her down.

Lol no. She has an Japanese (Asian) mother and grew up in the USA. I don’t think you can generalise. ๐Ÿ™„

    • Eric Kim says:

This girl’s last name is Osaka, she is a Japanese citizen and plays for Japan. She was raised by immigrant parents and her personality reflects her Japanese culture and values. Most Asian people can recognize her behavior because that’s how we grew up. Most of you who can’t see it probably never grew up in an Asian community and don’t know much about it.

    • Julie Elizabeth says:

nelson Lea half Japanese. Yes that’s in Asia

    • Nichole Jones says:

I think her ethnicity has nothing to do it. It’s how she’s been raised and her own mindset as a person.

    • Naomi Williams says:

Or maybe itโ€™s because as she said they tell them in training to not get distracted by the opponent so her game wouldnโ€™t be affected but you know just clutching at straws ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ

  8. DIYMary says:

I don’t usually comment, but Naomi Osaka is such an inspiration for POC. Thank you Naomi.

    • Book Snake says:

      What are you talking about?

What does “POC” have to do with anything?

    • Megan Carrington says:

Book Snake the world is going backwards… people canโ€™t look up to anyone of different races anymore.
Maybe itโ€™s just me but race plays no part in my role models.

    • Book Snake says:

Megan, I’m white and I have role models of all different races and nationalities.

It’s so weird that black people and “POC” can’t have role models outside their race.

I’m white and liked Jackie Chan and Malcolm X growing up.

Should I not, according to these people?

    • Reagan Butrum says:

She’s an inspiration for everyone not just POC

Hollywood is so confused by Naomi.. she is neither Narcissistic, Materialistic nor superficial. She is modest, humble, soft spoken yet firm and assertive and very very smart. Also she has that one thing sorely missing in Hollywood.. Innocence.

  20. Yeo Kenjjo says:

Sheโ€™s not a young Serena, she is Naomi Osaka. She is herself

    • parrotprodigy productions says:

Exactly. In both demeanor and skill, she’s light years ahead of Williams. There is NO comparison. Well-stated! ๐Ÿ‘

    • olivia transit says:

Yeo Kenjjo, Naomi is a lovely girl , her Japanese culture is her heritage, I love Japan and people, to be like Mr. Williams she would have to take a lot of Testosterone ( male hormones ) It is unfair to match Williams with real girls.

Of course she ain’t. Japanese athletes are humble and are not know for steroid abuse.

    • Supermelanin says:

When you compare their playing style.
Maybe watch Serena’s first grandslam wins to get perspective. There’s nothing wrong with the comparison, both are incredibly inspiring women. Also Serena and Venus have been through an ordeal as black women and really paved the way for other women of colour, like Naomi, Even Naomi recognizes that.
