Elon Musk: Falcon Heavy will be ‘great’ launch or ‘best fireworks’

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk tells CNN Tech’s Rachel Crane that whether the launch of the Falcon Heavy “succeeds or fails, it’s going to be exciting.”

Imagine sending your child off to preschool for the first time but you know there is a strong chance the school bus might blow up along the way. That is kind of what this feels like for me.

    • Russell Popham says:

Eric, pay no attention to the idiots, probably short-busers, lol, if they don’t get it, that’s their loss dude. But I’m with you on this, it’s been a long time in coming, and is a great achievement and a huge leap forward in getting space exploration back on track.

At $90MM per launch, that beats anything out there by half, and if the SLS comes off AT BUDGET of $1 BILLION per launch, that would pay for ELEVEN HEAVY FALCON launches. I think NASA needs to reevaluate their program and then SCRAP IT. Taxpayers at least shouldn’t stand for it, we’d be better off funding Elon’s BFR program ;?)

tbh a standard school bus is more deadly. This is scientifically calculated

    • philip j fry says:

yeah but it’s going into space that’s a Once in a lifetime thing if i had a chance i’d jump on it in a heart beat even with the risk.

    • Cj Epp says:

Good thing, only the center core went bye, bye…

    • ABreathOfReason says:

Well, so could anyone… it’s called sex.

When he speaks in front of a large audience, he is so nervous and stutters… But here he is obviously relaxed and I enjoy listening to him.

I like his realistic assessment! Maybe a successful start or just the biggest fireworks display in many years;) Of course, I hope we don’t have to see fireworks. I would much prefer a successful mission!

  3. Chen Yao says:

All the best wishes for the launch tomorrow.

He doesn’t really stutter when he’s relaxed.

Failure is not an option. God speed Falcon Heavy!

    • GormyGorm says:

Failure is always an option, what is important is what you learn from your failure.

    • jshowa o says:

Center booster crashed into the ocean. I’d say that’s a failure.

    • Zeayo says:

jshowa o Right, because the seamless launch, perfect delivery of “payload”, and the synchronized landing of TWO falcon 9 rockets mean nothing. Eat a dick

    • jshowa o says:

Take it easy. Never said any of that was a failure. The whole point of SpaceX rockets is reusability. If one of them crashed, that’s a problem dipshit.
I also wish the media would stop lying saying its the most powerful in the world (it isn’t, the Saturn V is) and that the roadster is going to mars (it isn’t, its going to match Mars orbit in a heliocentric manner)

    • Milan Karakas says:

This booster that crashed into ocean, that is the most difficult one to return back actually. Two side boosters goes relatively slowly, and then can maneuver back to the landing site. But central one has the most inertia. Also, do not forget strong wind at the time of the return. Still, I will call it (almost) complete success, more than Elon Musk itself give a 50-50 % chance.

    What a rockstar. I can’t wait.

Can we get Elon a real role in the Avengers?

  11. Qualehdi Almedillu says:

    He looks so tired 😀

  12. Christopher Zarate says:

He is the real life Tony Stark

    • Phillip Mai says:

As much as I like Elon for doing things to ameliorate society, keep in mind that his team is what makes this possible, not him. Stark can be more or less considered a one-man army due to the nature of fiction; in real life, the most meticulous tasks are left to SpaceX’s specialist, with Elon learning everything about his products due to said specialists, not the other way around.

    • Mithrax The Forsaken says:

Phillip Mai But he still directs the teams

    • Papa Sheev says:

I was thinking more along the lines of Peter Weyland in his youth.

    • firelord luke says:

Christopher Zarate ummmm I doubt he can hit a 900 on a 16 ft half pipe so uh….. no

    • Yo Momma says:

Christopher Zarate ayy what up brotha Zarate gang out here haha

I noticed that he talks much more smoothly and seems much more comfortable when interviewed by this girl.

    • Captain Obvious says:

He turned from Elon Musk, to Elongated Musk 😉

    • New Age Cinematics says:

Kevin Lu l Storm Chasing it’s not about that, he’s also not infringe of Thousands. He’s more comfortable with a few

    • New Age Cinematics says:

TheOneAndOnly yeah and Fox News alternative facts are something else.

    • New Age Cinematics says:

AdamForExample Fox and cnn are bad.

    • DictatorMass says:

Its because its something hes excited about, most stuff he talks about probably give him headaches throughout the day 24/7, all this science and information math multiple projects, its just alot for him and i feel like he is comfortable with this, plus hes just waiting for the launch date and not working on it, he gets to sit and enjoy his work, for a little bit atleast…

    • SUGAR XYLER says:

I’m surprised he stopped playing with his dick long enough to launch.

I honestly don’t care to go to space. As it is earth is a very easy place to find death. Why the hell would I want to increase my chances in a man made bubble in space or like mars?

If the government would help stop ignorant people from having a litter of children, then earth would be a better place.

Elon should concentrate in making those electric pick up trucks he promised. Instead of making a second space shuttle…. Let NASA worry about that.
