I am a dedicated isekai watcher so I approve of this. You gotta do slice of life animes next Caleb

    • Katawaya says:

@Josiah Fredericks It’s an anime in which the main character somehow ends up in a different world, usually a fantasy one.

      Isekai are my favorite

@Lone Wolf Gaming I don’t believe that’s the defining trait–Overlord for example is another isekai with the mmo/game sub genre that is undisputedly an isekai. We can assume the main characters real life body is just rotting away in real life. I guess what I’m saying is, you’re probably right, SAO could be considered to be more of the mmo genre–since the game “world” in SAO is full of NPCs and code, while in Overlord the world is more so meant to be considered real and not constructed with code. Hence the lack of NPCs, but instead having real people with emotions, religions, beliefs etc. So maybe in actually, you could consider SAO an isekai if the game world were way more complex (i think it comes down to complexity, you have to ask at what point should the AI code driven world be considered a separate universe.)

Someone needs to remind writers that a “fish-out-of-water” main character doesn’t always have to be a, well, fish out of water. They don’t have to be yanked in from modern Tokyo just so you can have an MC who needs to adapt to a new society and culture

    • Jay says:

I think it’s written more for relatable escapism the idea of being that person ripped from Tokyo is extremely appealing to most people drowning from work exhaustion

    • SilverReaps says:

isekai would be a dead genre if they werent fish out of water

    • Zemellion 2 says:

@Tayshaun Alexander actually if you watched the anime or read the manga you’d know that isn’t the case. Rimuru cant solo anime. Xeno Goku still bodies him. The only one I know who can solo anime is Yogiri from instant death because he can kill you by thinking about it, but not only just that, he can kill mupltiple multiverses just by thinking them all as dead

    • MysticFlow says:

@Fairy Blu thank you. I just watched episode 1 it was an amazing and emotional episode, now I’m on episode 2

    • Aminul Hussain says:

@norwa Sounds like you haven’t watched the show then.

  4. N/A says:

Can we get a bit of respect for the man still hustling for more people to join his guild?

  5. Vespaia says:

The sounds he makes when….experiencing physical trauma is both unique and familiar.

  6. RadioOncall says:

Caleb is canonically an Isekai protagonist now. The lore expands.

    • & says:

Almost every video is another world that Caleb got isekai’d into, he’s been run over by a truck well over 100 times

    • 26 Mic says:

I create entertaining vids just like Caleb. I bet 100% it’ll make u laugh. If not u can come to tell me dawg

  7. eric Spencer says:

“Join us for just one mission”

The way you know there’s going to be a full series afterwards, that’s just such a funny line lol

  8. RPWPA says:

As a guy who has been watching anime for 10+ years, I can say that this is 100% accurate. At some point, they even skip the death scene and go “Oh, you are in a new universe now”

    • Cole Williams says:

They’re getting lazier. It’s sad that everyone wants DnD fantasy sword monster adventure but what they keep giving us is such trash. We’re not asking for Tolkein, I’d be happy with any animated DnD campaign

    • Raheem Bolden says:

      *cough Re:Zero cough*

  9. K says:

Can we get a bit of respect for the man still hustling for more people to join his guild?

  10. Katana says:

One thing that never quite buzzed right to me in isekais is how there’s generally a Guild that takes requests to pay armed individuals to go and kill things; and it’s congratulated with this heroic feel to it.

Dude that ain’t a hero’s guild or adventurer’s guild. That’s private security. That’s a PMC. Those are mercenaries. 90% of these requests are going to be “I spotted a suspicious individual inside of my business competitor’s daughter’s house. Go there and kill anyone you see.”
