Kinda impressive how MatPat was able to take a movie like Encanto and managed to conclude that everyone was simply a result of methodically planned out inbreeding.

Mirabel, her sisters and cousins are the first generation of their family to be born within the Encanto. Presumably, there have only been one or two generations for other families in the village. Another comment mentioned how one of her family members (who married into the family) came from outside the village. But it couldn’t hurt to have some more generic diversity lol
Anyone under 50 had to have been born there, at a minimum. Even though the triplets present as much younger at the time of the film, all three are 50, and Julieta and Pepa would have been in their late 20s at the births of their oldest daughters, Isabella and Dolores, who are both 21 presently. Felix and Augustin were almost certainly among those original children among the refugees. We only see at most ten other people who look to be between Abuela’s age or older and the triplet’s age. Assuming that the Encanto was truly sealed off during this time, as the director and writer have stated, only around 50 of the total initial population would still be around and counting toward the population total. Though the grandkids were the first generation of Madrigals born in the Encanto, there are approximately 28 years before their births available for the rest of the population to grow.

right? there was at MOST two generations born within the encanto, brunos generation, born just before, or just after the encantos creation, and mirabel’s generation, born from those of bruno’s generation. there is 100% something to say about what would of happened if the encanto hadnt opened up though., like imagine if the mountain didnt crack, another generation or two and matpat might of had a point

A lot of people probably think you’re exaggerating when you say you’ve seen the movie 50+ times with your kid, but as a parent I want to assure y’all that it’s not an exaggeration. When a kid gets hooked they may watch a movie 2-5 times a day. Two weeks in and you’ve had it in the background 59+ times.

As the cousin who is put in charge of all of my younger cousins, I can confirm this as well. My cousin Shiloh was hooked on the Lion King and the Lion King 2 for about a year before we got her to stop because the VCR tape was “broken.” After that, I’ve made sure to get my cousins hooked on shows rather than movies so that there’s a little more variety in what we’re watching. lmao

A lot of nice people like strong/violent/taboo subjects in fictional media because that doesn’t affect their personality at all. MatPat is a clear example of that. He’s the sweetest and nicest guy, and he loves horror media.

fun fact, whenever I’m in the car with my little brother, we always listen to the Disney Movies like Encanto and Turning Red (as well as some other songs)
thankfully, we’re not always in the same car most of the time, so I don’t need to worry about those same songs stuck in my head.

It’s actually said by one of the creators that Julieta can cure everything, even her husband and daughter’s eyesight, but she gives them a choice.

If there’s physical component to their visual impairments, there’s nothing contradictory.
That makes zero sense, lol. Unless literally nobody knows about this choice and they just assume Julietta can only heal injuries, which makes her power effectively limited to injuries only (like Isabella’s power was effectively limited to flowers until proven otherwise).
How does that work tho? Does that mean that the person needs to know what is wrong to be cured? What if someone had cancer and was never cured because they didnt knew? Would a person who tried to put their own life at risk be able to be cured?

IF one of the next generation of kids (the offspring of Camilo, or Isabela, or whomever) had a child who could teleport, that child could help extend the family line, and ensure that inbreeding wouldn’t happen. That child could teleport outside of the Encanto, and would bring someone back.
