This is the most outlandish theory he has about Yoshi, yet it somehow makes enough sense and seems plausible. Huge W for MatPat if this theory is proven canon in the future.
One thing to keep in mind is that jump or we sacrifice Yoshi to make the jump, and we just hatch another Yoshi. Aren’t we just going through generations of Yoshi really quickly. They can all be Canon and just be like a he’s evolving in this direction.

Peach in Greek is ‘rodakino’ and originally ‘dorakino’. So in a very Japanese style you can make a portmanteau on Japanese for dragon and mushroom, ‘doragon’ and kinoko’, and come out with… ‘dora-kino’. Ancient GREEK word, for PEACH. Combination, of Toads and Dragons, that reproduces by fruiting. Fruit trees, as we sure know, is a common host to various FUNGI.
That’s why Bowser kidnaps peach. She exudes magic just by being located there, and that’s also what makes the various toads to grow into her human-like image.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but since dragons aren’t real and there isn’t an official classification for dragons and it varies from culture to culture, couldn’t dinosaurs be considered dragons?
Yep I also always assumed Dinosaurs and Dragons were the same thing and it seems pretty canon in Mario world. So Yoshi would a Dino-Turtle hybrid.
Yoshi has Osteoderms.
That’s what the “shell” is on his back and explains the red plates running down his back.
Just like Ankylosaurs with an adapted set of Osteoderms that form the club, Yoshi has surface formations that help protect his vulnerable back.
Would develop similarly to a Pachycephalosaurus skull.

I think “Plessie” is more a reference to “Nessie”, the Loch Ness monster, rather than a reference to the plesiosaur. Which would somewhat resemble a Nothosaur, according to legend anyway.

He’s the physical manifestation of an extra life.
Mario can survive taking a hit from an enemy or falling to his doom by sacrificing him.
That’s why when you already have him, extra lives come out of his egg instead. Because a second Yoshi wouldn’t be utilised in the same way.
If he was just following behind he wouldn’t be able to take a hit or be dumped into a pit for an extra jump. Therefore a second Yoshi wouldn’t be an extra life and can’t exist.

More like they are long lost brothers but he has to clickbait since other titles would not get as much attention.
I think the Dragon-Dinosaur thing comes from the fact that in Japanese, the word for dinosaur 恐竜 can also translate to mean “scary dragon” so yoshi is meant to simply be a play on that concept of the interchangeability of that word.
@Phantom Gato Dinosaur (恐竜) is made up of the “Fear” Kanji (恐) and the “Dragon” Kanjji (竜). Turtle would be 亀
