Over the past few (years, honestly), I’ve watched other people make custom hard candy from scratch – oddly satisfying pulling, stretching, rolling, and chopping – with adorably tiny results. So, after a lot of watching from the sidelines, I decided that I needed to try this out for myself – how hard could it actually be? So I ventured to Lofty Pursuits candy store in Tallahassee, FL where Greg & the team taught me how to sling candy – old school style. We made custom flavored drop candy in a press, and two different batches of image candy – one watermelon, and one tiny disgruntled alien. What do you guys think of our final candies?

Greg and Jake were absoloutely amazing, you can see (especially in Greg) that they care about their work and their passion definitely shines through it. Love that they were informative and helped you through it all and you did amazing for 6 hours!
These candies were all the rage during my teenage years and I was so glad to see them making a comeback!!
It’s so cool to see how she did all that considering the fact that the usual training takes about 18 months. The people who helped her out where super chill too! Thanks for the video.

Absolutely loved the “Drunken alien/frog” and how he throughout chopping turned more and more derpy. I’m honestly glad he didn’t turn out exactly like the emoji, as this frog-alien has more character then an emoji could ever have.
