  4. Christopher Robert says:

Pharmaceutical Companies spent $24 Billion on marketing to Doctors last
year, and another $4 Billion marketing to end user consumers. That means
that 9 out of 10 of the biggest drug companies spent more on marketing last
year than they did on research and development.

“Drug companies are a bit like high-school boyfriends,” Oliver said.
“They’re much more concerned with getting inside you than being effective
    once they’re in there.”

It has actually become common practice at many doctors offices to turn the
food(or even pens) away – because it can actually be illegal to except
gifts from a drug rep if you Rx their meds.

Corporations don’t respond to fines with real changes in policy; but they
do when board members are arrested for multiple counts of fraud.

Yeah, you could take John’s suggestion and make pharmaceutical companies
more accountable through their doctor proxies.

OR: Ditch your bullshit American system, tell it to go fuck itself, and
adopt universal healthcare like the rest of the civilised world. As a
citizen from a country with universal healthcare, please trust me when I
say that there is nothing to be afraid of. This will NOT mean the insidious
infection of your country to communists. The world will not end. The sun
will continue to rise every morning. Your 16 year old teenager will still
argue with you and act as if he knows all the answers.

Best of all, you’ll find that prescription medicine has become like 90%
cheaper and totally affordable, so you won’t need to take out a
$10,000 loan or something ridiculous to recover from illness or injury.
