HELLO FRIENDS!! So, this week we’re taking on something a bit different — jewelry casting! As something of a melting fiend, YouTube has recommended me a few different videos about metal casting over the past few months — and I found myself with a big NEED for FLAME. So, we picked up a bunch of jewelry from the thrift store, and then melted it down into molten metal, cast it into organic shapes with water & frozen peas, and then fashioned our castings into wearable jewelry pieces. What do you guys think of my ~collection~?

So lovely! Made me lowkey cry I never got the chance to learn this craft. I feel creative ideas poking me already.
This was so fun.
I loved all the pieces. The little droplets could also be all joined together in a piece of abstract art object.
The peas were something I never thought of. Loved the shape of coral those took.
Also reminded me of this old New Years tradition of casting metal pieces (if I’m not wrong I believe it was copper used for this) in a bucket of water to see the “future” read from the shapes the metal makes when hardening in water.
To me it’s like seeing possible artwork or maybe jewelry (if only I could).
Glassblowing may be a fun thing to do. I’ve seen videos of glassblowing and stuff and I liked that too. I have a feeling I’ve seen it irl but very long ago (possibly two decades ago once when I went to kids craft classes showdown, I was in for two years of arts class but now I wish I had more variety of classes as I do actually like crafting stuff)

If you asked me 27 minutes and 32 seconds ago if I thought green pea jewellery would be up my ally I would have had a very different answer to now. Those pieces turned out amazing! The finished pieces reminded me of coral at the beach. I loved the water drop studs too! So cute and dainty!

They are one of the best concerts, you can not go but just seeing them from the screen, I know it was surprising

The whole process is pretty fascinating. The “frozen peas” pieces are beautiful.

safiya’s jewelry came out gorgeous!!! the matte/shiny texture was a perfect decision
as someone who does silver and goldsmithing, it makes me so, so happy to see people trying it for themselves, even if it’s a one-off masterclass, and it’s amazing how accessible it’s becoming on a more in-depth level 😀 i love all your melting things together videos, but i’m not personally into makeup, so this particular level really warmed my heart! i really hope you go back and try this again – it’s so much fun!
It’s got me wanting to try but I’m terrified of hot things. XD On average, when paying attention as one normally would, how often do accidental burns happen?
I know this might be a stupid question, but how do you make silver have a golden overlay?
I do silversmithing as a hobby but I’m still quite nervous about liquid metal, so I really love Silver clay as an alternative! The whole hobby is hella expensive, though 😅
@MonkeyBonesGeorge If you pay attention and handle the equipment properly, the blowtorch won’t do you any harm. Just be careful!
Easter egg: the necklace Safiya is wearing at the end of the vid is the one Christine (simply nailogical) gave her as a wedding gift. That’s so sweet to see how much she cherished that gift.
