@Alt it does neither, it just picks up the same type of item that you give it and drops it on you. Basically a floating hopper for a specific item.

This allows a lot of change. These mobs have been pretty cute, this one is the most useful so far though. I mean sure, the other mob fits in with the caves that recently got updated, but this one just seems… Game changing. Redstone and modders can really have a field day with it. Can’t wait to see the next, but this one has my vote so far.

I could see this being used to make an elaborate storage sorting system, that would come in handy big time
I like how they give more uses to the less important things in the game like note blocks.
i really like this mob. i just hope there’s a way to link different allay to specific note blocks. like they prefer note blocks that have an item frame holding their item. then you could have multiple running at a time and not have to worry about them dropping the wrong item in the wrong hoppers
I love the idea and seems way better than the glare, however I do have concerns regarding if it will make hopper minecarts obsolete

You assume I make/use/know how to use hopper minecarts in the first place
I don’t agree I think the allay and hoppers could work together because the allay throws things all over the place hoppers could work with them.
at first thought I would think that you would need tons of these guys to match the efficiency of one hopper minecart for large scale farms, but maybe for smaller starter-level farms. I imagine they don’t move very fast and can probably only carry at most a stack of items at a time.
from the looks of it, hopper minecarts will still be the est for large scale item collection systems, bt the allay would allow for systems with less throughput, but easier to construct and with more flexibility.
however, it also gives note blocks a mechanical use, which is pretty interesting
