Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, Oppenheimer is an IMAX®-shot epic thriller that thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it.

The film stars Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer and Emily Blunt as his wife, biologist and botanist Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer. Oscar® winner Matt Damon portrays General Leslie Groves Jr., director of the Manhattan Project, and Robert Downey, Jr. plays Lewis Strauss, a founding commissioner of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission.

Academy Award® nominee Florence Pugh plays psychiatrist Jean Tatlock, Benny Safdie plays theoretical physicist Edward Teller, Michael Angarano plays Robert Serber and Josh Hartnett plays pioneering American nuclear scientist Ernest Lawrence.

Oppenheimer also stars Oscar® winner Rami Malek and reunites Nolan with eight-time Oscar® nominated actor, writer and filmmaker Kenneth Branagh.

The cast includes Dane DeHaan (Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets), Dylan Arnold (Halloween franchise), David Krumholtz (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story) and Matthew Modine (The Dark Knight Rises).

The film is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Christopher Nolan.

Oppenheimer is filmed in a combination of IMAX® 65mm and 65mm large-format film photography including, for the first time ever, sections in IMAX® black and white analogue photography.

Nolan’s films, including Tenet, Dunkirk, Interstellar, Inception and The Dark Knight trilogy, have earned more than $5 billion at the global box office and have been awarded 11 Oscars and 36 nominations, including two Best Picture nominations.

    Murphy has been loyal to Nolan for nearly two decades. It’s about time he was given his own film. This might just be the film that gets both these men their respective Oscars. No more than they deserve. Can’t wait for this.

  2. ТвОй УжАс says:

    Cillian Murphy is a cinematic genius. They could just show his face for 3 hours and he will depict an entire saga of humanity with his expression.

  3. James Swindells says:

    Christopher Nolan, Cillian Murphy, a crucial moment in humanities history…How can this not be epic?

  4. Gepp says:

    Let’s all give a shout to Christian Bale. Even the trailer shows how well he coped with the role of the atomic bomb. another incredible transformation for the sake of the role.

      »The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
      Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren;
      And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;
      And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon;
      And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;
      And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;
      And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa;
      And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias;
      And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias;
      And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias;
      And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:
      And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel;
      And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;
      And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud;
      And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;
      And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
      So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.
      Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of The Holy Ghost.
      Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
      But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of The Holy Ghost.
      And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
      Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
      Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
      Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
      And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.«

  8. TheBlackClockOfTime says:

    Wonder what it’s like to see this movie as a Japanese person, as a German and as a US citizen. Like what the different experiences and perspectives and emotions might be that would be going on in the heads of these different people. Especially those that lived through this era.

    • Ben'jamin Michael says:

      @Heckleburger I recently watched a video that gave a pretty good account on the decision-making behind the bomb drop. It gives some more historical context behind fire-bombing both Japanese and European cities during this period. There’s a pretty dark reasoning behind the bombing tactics. No one involved in the war has a completely clean record.

    • Ed Serrano says:

      @Heckleburger Unfortunately that is not true. Contrary to what they teach in American highschool history classes, Japan was on the verge of surrendering. The Potsdam specifically called for unconditional surrender, which is not a logical or fair treaty from any given standpoint. Many historians agree that Japan would have surrendered if given a bit more leeway. The allied forces were basically on the mainland at this point. I recommend taking some college level history courses on the matter. Theres just so much context that a highschool class or youtube video can cover.

    • Jordan Seah says:

      I would hope at the core of the film is the story of a man’s titanic internal conflict between saving the world and destroying it. Helping humanity and annihilating it. His wife probably suffered greatly, not to mention Oppenheimer himself. This movie is going to be so stressful haha.

    • danp p says:

      @barboza and yet Hollywood elitist type people say guns are bad but yet use them in their movies some don’t even get training and talk s*** about guns and then wonder why there’s accidents is because didn’t listen to professionals

    • Evan says:

      @eyespy3001 This doesnt look like a glorification of them.

  9. Bobby Ricigliano says:

    Cillian Murphy is one of the greatest actors of this generation. If I knew nothing else about this film, I’d go see it on the strength of his talent alone.

  10. Itsyeboi Trently says:

    Saw this in the theater. Wow. Absolutely mindblowing how spine-chilling a trailer can be. Can’t wait to see this film in IMAX 🤘🏻
