Great video, awesome story. To anyone wondering the word is “Pounamu”, and is pronounced poe-nah-moo.
I met Sir Ian McKellen outside a theatre in Auckland. He was wearing his greenstone and we had a chat about its meaning. He was interested in māori lore. He told me how much he enjoyed the traditional feast he was invited to while filming LotR.
I remember it was so easy to talk with him that afterwards I walked away thinking, wow did that just happen?
