Would have been funny to actually have one shatter on screen. (Complete with fake frozen innards.)

However, I suspect fake innards and enough liquid nitrogen would have been too expensive for the skit’s minimal budget. As it is, I bet half the set pieces and props were recycled from other skits.

However, if they made sure to put what remained of the prop in a container before it thawed, they could probably get use out of it later in plenty of future skits as mutilated monkey remains.

The cheaper we can make space exploration be – the better. That’s what they told us in Space Camp.

    • ruediix says:

Cheap but effective. That’s what makes it so funny! Just like Monty Python.

    • ruediix says:

+Donald Storm I wonder if that was actually her, or one of the dummies of her they have from the prop department.

Though this was a really weak episode, this skit is one of the funniest SNL skits I’ve seen in a long time. I was in tears.

Why is Mikey so good at faking zero G?

    • Ion T says:

He was amazing! In the beginning I couldn’t look at anyone else because he was that good!!

    • Brian O'Kongkohr says:

It’s clear he wasn’t born in Earth gravity. Which can mean onLy one thing. He’s not from OUR WORLD.

    • ruediix says:

A lot of actors have trained on one of the commercial parabolic jets available. (i.e. vomit comets) Sometimes they’ve even filmed some high budget productions on them.

Those provide real Zero-G, but only for a few minutes, and are well beyond the budget of this skit. I’m sure, like many things, having experienced it makes it a lot easier to imitate.

    • Blake S says:

Especially the part with his legs.
