Why not just take one island each? They’re practically identical, and the UK never invested much in the west island. Maybe Argentina would do something with it, and that in turn would help promote the development of the east island.

Also the current British Government in power idolised Thatcher and see themselves as Thatcherites so its a safe bet they would go back to war to keep them.

Three things. First, in the referendum the only people involved were people living in falklands. That means british people living in a taken island were asked if they wanted the island to go back to being argentinian domain :-/… Second, British ground armies suffer minimal casualties because many of them were professional soldiers (A.K.A. paid mercenaries). Third, according to international laws referring to parameters dictating what land belongs to who, Falklands fulfills all the features and requirements that technically make the island to be argentinian. It is 200km or less from the shores of mainland Argentina and satellite images show that the island falls withing Argentinian oceanic platform.

  14. Gonzalo Piñeiro says:

The argentinian soldiers weren’t even soldiers, they were 17/18 years old, with shitty weapons and no training, they were destined to loose (and who says lets fight GREAT FCKING BRITAIN)

  17. RadioStock says:

I’m Argentinian, and to add to what another commenter said, there’s also the fact that the UN debacle was basically to make the islands half Argentinian, half British (this was after we invaded the islands and the British established the safe zone).

That would have been a victory for us, so thatcher wouldn’t have it and she sent the order to sink the Belgrano, days before that referendum took place. So, we retaliated and got our asses kicked. Also, Chile helped the British a lot, giving them Intel, letting them through and aiding them with whatever they needed.

At the end of the day, it was a pointless war that fucked over a lot of kids that were forced into this by a drunken dictator.
