The Outer Worlds – Official Announcement Trailer

Watch the official announcement trailer for The Outer Worlds, a new single-player first-person sci-fi RPG from Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division.

In The Outer Worlds, you awake from hibernation on a colonist ship that was lost in transit to Halcyon, the furthest colony from Earth located at the edge of the galaxy, only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy it. As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.

Getting some good New Vegas vibes from this, along with a more refined undertone of Borderlands. I am totally on-board with this.

Though if it runs in Unreal, I’ll probably need to invest in a laptop, since for some reason my machine can’t handle Unreal Engine 4 and refuses to incorporate the appropriate runtimes.

    • Sea Raider says:

GmodPlusWoW Yeah same. I can run some decent games but Unreal 4 just messes me up big time. can’t play any games that use it without an fps drop

    • GmodPlusWoW says:

+Sea Raider At least you can actually run them. I don’t know what’s up with my rig, but it refuses to even *launch* anything with Unreal Engine 4, claiming that I don’t have the right runtime even though I have it. I’m not in the mood to mess around with a clean install right now, and I’m not ready to get a new rig built just yet, so until then I’m probably going to have to wait out Unreal Engine titles for the time being.

I was going to fire up the new Call of Cthulhu for Halloween, but I couldn’t even get it to launch. My whole evening would have been a wash, were it not for Toby Fox coming through at the last minute with a Halloween Miracle in the form of Deltarune.

    • Sea Raider says:

GmodPlusWoW Damn. Well, good to hear your Halloween wasn’t ruined, at least. Trust me though, playing with a low fps is not a lot of fun either. It’s like I can almost taste the game but not really.

    • GmodPlusWoW says:

+Sea Raider Oh boy, I know that feeling. I didn’t quite enjoy the Shadow Warrior reboot when I played it on my previous rig, but when I went back in after upgrading I got the experience I was after.

this feels like fallout more than fallout 4 does.

    • CephalopodsRock says:

+NH808 It has the aesthetics of the ORIGINAL fallout

    • Ben Delat says:

+CephalopodsRock Really? This game has the aesthetics of a top-down isometric rpg based in barren, colourless landscapes and ruined cityscapes? Don’t get me wrong, Fallout 1 and 2 are my all time facourite games, but this looks nothing like those aesthetically.

    • John Martinez says:

*Insert whiny comment about Bethesda here*

    • Cuntfucker Doge says:

+Ben Delat i’d say the buildings, armour, turret and character design look alot like the original fallouts

    • CephalopodsRock says:

+Ben Delat I disagree. I think this has a much better blend of retro and futurism than the modern Fallouts. The originals had pops of retro aesthetic, but where much more grounded. The modern fallouts are far too goofy in their designs. They completely misinterpreted the grim humor of the originals. If FO 1 & 2 where turned into modern 3D games I think they would look just like this.

1:19 is what I think most people wish for in every Fallout game

Finally a new fallout engine! 😂

  10. Shivu says:

Imagine if Bethesda just sold the rights of Fallout to Obsidian… Fallout 76 would never have happened.

    • Hell Bro says:

Skyy | Editor I don’t think that’s true for much longer. I was sceptical about Fallout 76 after playing 4. Now that people have played 76 I don’t think many will instantly eat up anything they put out.

    • Seihai Team FS says:

+Skyy | Editor *Looking at Wiki and only 2 have good ratings*, I don’t think so my friend. Tbh the success of this trailer mostly based on the fall of Fallout 76 and their mocking at Bethesda.

    • тωιивlνdє says:

It would have been better It would be called Fallout 5

    • Skyy | Editor says:

+Hell Bro that’s what I’m hoping for but you never know
a lot of people will still always eat up anything and everything any major company like Bethesda produces

      for example, the cod franchise
you always hear about how bad the last few games are, but people kept pre-ordering/buying them

    • Skyy | Editor says:

+Seihai Team FS what only has 2 good ratings?
and I’ll agree that the failure that is Fo76 definitely is helping this game out, i think many followers of Obsidian were excited when they said they were going to announce something today, regardless of the fo76 fiasco simply because Obsidian knows how to make good games

  11. sonofhades57 says:

This game has more character in two minutes than Fallout 76 had in its entire runtime.

  12. TNM001 says:

first 10 sec: “this looks like Fallout in Space, even the ’50 artstyle is the same”
after 1min: “from the creators of Fallout”.

    oh snap 😉

this will go places, up or down…nobody knows yet.

  13. NoiseMarines says:

To be honest? I’m glad Obsidian is leaving Fallout behind. The last thing they need is to be under Bethesda’s thumb again.

    • angelowl89 says:

I’d really like them to take up Van Buren and release a new Fallout game with those design documents though. Still, this shit is awesome.

  14. Jon Irenicus says:

“From the original creators of Fallout”

    “Original…”

Burn Bethesda, burn in hell you mofos.

  15. brothertim says:

I really hope Obsidian’s recent acquisition by Microsoft doesn’t end up like Blizzard’s with Activision. Obsidian (and by extension, Black Isle) is one of those rare companies left, with an impressive pedigree, and I would truly be saddened if they gave up making impressive games to focus on microtransactions. Icewind Dale, PS:Torment, Baldur’s Gate, new South Park games, Pillars of Eternity 1 & 2, and let’s not forget Fallout 2, one of the best games ever made. An impressive resume in the RPG genre, to say the least.

    • brothertim says:

@Craig Morris – I was skeptical about Microsoft until I saw the comments they made to Obsidian about making a new IP (The Outer Worlds, I assume) shortly after I posted that. Here’s the quote, for those who haven’t seen it: “He [Mike] said we [Microsoft] basically went in there to those companies and said: “what project do you wanna make?” and they are like “what’s our budget?” and he said “I don’t think you understand, that’s not our question, our question is what games do you want to make? We are Microsoft and we have the budget, we just wanna know what game you want to do, what are your wildest dreams”.”
-that’s very reassuring for me to hear.

    • Lost in Forest says:

+brothertim I know people think that Microsoft ruined RARE but RARE got bad way before Microsoft acquired them , not to mention that Microsoft now has Phil Spencer so I’m not worried about Obsidian, if anything I’m happy that Microsoft’s next generation will have a lot better games and be able to compete with Sony.

    • Seihai Team FS says:

Did you forget Alpha Protocol, Pillars of Eternity, Skyforge, Pathfinder Adventures and Tyranny?

    • Sol Harv says:

And New Vegas. Jeez, these guys have made a lot of great games.

    • Seihai Team FS says:

+Sol Harv They are the writers of New Vegas actually.

  16. Sinitar Gaming says:

Thank you for giving us both taste of old hopes and beloved setting type together with a fresh wind of completely new adventure.
You announced it and the trust in you just works.
Guys, we love you. Stay awesome.

  17. Sinder says:

100% buying this at full price, Obsidian always delivers.

    • facu momi says:

Yeah I want to pre-order right now!!!! thanks obsidian

    • Sinder says:

Seihai Team FS They didn’t publish those. They weren’t their own projects. This is one of few games they’ll be making without major company influence like Microsoft and others.

    • Seihai Team FS says:

+Sinder The publisher just published the games, they made the games.

    • Mehmet Aytekin says:

+qqq qqq Right! I’m playing Deadfire and when I was entering a map soothing went wrong and the game told me I’m directed to the game menu to avoid savegame corruption. Even crashes have class.
