Doctor Who website: http://bbc.in/1iNCCAI It’s time to meet the Thirteenth Doctor.

Jodie Whittaker has been announced as the Doctor Who’s 13th Time Lord – the first woman to get the role.

She was revealed in a Doctor Who trailer that was broadcast on BBC One at the end of the Wimbledon men’s singles final.

The Broadchurch star succeeds Peter Capaldi, who took the role in 2013 and leaves in this year’s Christmas special.

Whittaker, 35, will make her debut on the sci-fi show this Christmas.

I see that Chibnall has chosen a ‘Broadchurch’ alum – I hope that she has great scripts!

I’m so glad it’s not Kris Marshall! 👏👏

WELL, HERE WE GO AGAIN! PLEASE DW FANS, GIVE HER A CHANCE! YOU ALL NEEDTO WAIT AND SEE! IT’S UNFAIR IF U JUDGE AND DON’T WAIT, UR A FAKE FAN IF U DENY THE SHOW NOW BECAUSE THE DOCTOR IS FEMALE!

  5. Karen Jones says:

I’ll leave judgement open, with good script writing should be ok

Feminism has gone too far. Well done BBC 👍

  8. Supermovies says:

I didn’t want the Doctor to be a woman. But now that I think about it, it’s about time to have a female doctor. If it were a male, it wouldn’t do the show any favours considering there were 12 men who carried the torch of the show.

  9. Leigh Balsdon says:

Why does this happen every time the doctor regenerates? Give them a chance!

  10. Gertrude Perkins says:

I have been a fan since the 1980s. And here’s what I have to say…

*Calm down, dears! It is only a TV programme!*

And quite frankly, a female Doctor could be a refreshing change for the franchise after almost 54 years!

The song of the 12th ends, but the story continues! 😃

  11. Jorgino says:

Why do people think this is a ‘PC’ thing and not just a great choice because she’s a fantastic actress?

If Doctor Who is gonna go on for another 100 years and have like 57 Doctors, to have them all be men is ridiculous

  12. H0Jack00 says:

I’ll get the jelly babies and fish custard ready for the comments I’m about to read.
    Anyone else want some?

  13. Josie Borlase says:

Wow the amount of sexist stuff on here is disgusting. Just because she is a woman doesn’t mean she won’t do a fabulous job! I mean, look at all the female racing drivers and female builders or electricians (I could go on). They are just as good at their jobs as men are. Don’t judge until you watch her. She could very well be the best Doctor to date.

  14. Itsatrap327 says:

Can’t we just talk about that awfully photoshopped Tennant TARDIS right from google images people? That’s the real problem here

  15. Deathlygunn says:

    Right, look.

Over the last 7 years since Matt Smith uttered the words “I’m a girl.”, Steven Moffat and the BBC having been sowing the seeds for the emergence of a female Doctor, most prominently through having The Master regenerate into Michelle Gomez, and the General regenerating into a woman right before our eyes in Hell Bent, as well as several bits of dialogue in which either The Doctor or Missy have mentioned how gender fluid the Timelords are as a species because they can swap between them at random. So give me one good reason why a female Doctor is a bad thing, tell me why it’s going to destroy the show, or why you are now going to boycott Doctor Who. Because there’s not a valid answer.

Jodie Whittaker has the makings of a fine Doctor and she’s coupled with a showrunner she’s been working with for four years now who is well aware of her strengths and weaknesses as a performer and how to get the most out of her performance.

Good luck Jodie, I can’t wait to see what you bring to the table.

  16. Fallen Prime says:

Remember when people said Matt Smith was too young for the role?
Remember when people said Peter Capaldi was too old for the role?
Settle the fuck down and let her surprise you.

  17. Cloudburst says:

The call of many has finally been answered. The Doctor being a woman.

To those who say they are leaving the show. No one cares. :’) There are gazillion more who are ready to give her a chance and we all should.

Didn’t Capaldi surprise us too after Matt Smith? Who knows what she has to offer!

  18. TheJiM says:

Doctor Who has turned into a social justice warrior fan service. Absolutely just a terrible decision. Here’s the thing, the Doctor’s gender is essential to his character, it’s who the Doctor is and this decision was made for one reason. The BBC trying to get the show popular again by making a controversial lead role. Just so disappointing.

  19. Danny Brown says:

fuck this shit I’m out. don’t mind me ima just pack my things and leave excuse me please
