There’s a Massive, Illicit Bust of Edward Snowden Stuck to a War Monument in Brooklyn

While most people slept, a trio of artists and some helpers installed a bust of NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden in Brooklyn on Monday morning. The group, which allowed ANIMAL to exclusively document the installation on the condition that we hide their identities, hauled the 100-pound sculpture into Fort Greene Park and up its hilly terrain just before dawn. They fused it to part of the Prison Ship Martyrs Monument, a memorial to Revolutionary War soldiers. As of press time, the sculpture was still there.

Fucking amazing. Thank you for bringing this back into light. Sadly the
digital age distracts people and we forget about everything within a few
months (the majority of people at least.) This needs to happen more often,

Snowden leaked thousands of classified documents intended only for NSA/CIA
eyes only and attached his real name to it. These guys made an (albeit,
well done) silly statue and silently “installed” it in a public park and
even went out of their way to make it easily removed, and have to mask
their faces and voices. It just all seems a bit silly and hypocritical to

Edward Snowden is a genuine American hero. History will remember him as

Damn good work! I have a feeling history is going to treat Snowden much
more kindly than today’s society. I’ll bet the people who hate him are
fine with voting in the deeply entrenched career politicians, but will also
complain about the “idiots in Washington.” Which one is it?

I’d say that there’s nothing wrong with them having that information, but
they should be more transparent about when they’re allowed to use it.

  13. Beachbug1vw says:
