TIE Fighter – short film

TIE Fighter – short film

What if there was an Empire-focussed short Star Wars animation, drawn with the crazy detail and shading of classic 80s anime that’s all but vanished from Japan nowadays?
Well, I tried my best. Apologies in advance for not living up to Venus Wars standards.
Drawn and animated by yours truly over 4 years’ worth of weekends, with music by the living guitar solo Zak Rahman and sound design by up and coming audio technician Joseph Leyva. Fans of Lucasarts’ seminal 1994 TIE Fighter game may notice a few familiar sights and sounds. That “incoming missile” noise gives me horrible flashbacks to this day…

Special thanks to the good folk at Lucasfilm for encouraging people to get creative and make these kind of projects. It’s thanks to their extremely fan-friendly nature that we can enjoy IMPS: The Relentless, TROOPS, etc.

Don’t support me on Patreon, because I don’t have one! And don’t donate to my Kickstarter, because I don’t have one of those either. Instead, if you enjoyed this, give someone at your workplace, uni, school or whatever a random bar of chocolate or can or Coke or something. Seriously, it’ll probably make their day.
That would totally make my day.

Cool to see an anime spin to StarWars but is there one that doesn’t
    shamelessly favor the badguys?

That was some absolutely phenomenal animation, I experienced frisson
several times. It’s too bad the sound is kinda botched, might be youtube
compression or a bad render from the video export.
No worries, it doesn’t put a damper on the whole experience.

Star Wars w stylu anime. 😀 Pewien fan, przez 4 lata sam zrobił

This touches on so much of 80s Macross space battles including the music. I
can feel the nostalgia of Char’s Counter-Attack and of course the rotoscope
style animation from 80s films like Heavy Metal. This is just great. Thank
you for giving credit to the guitarist, it is just epic.

I Fucking cried, and i’m a grown ass man. This was beautiful. I’ve often
wanted to do my own CG take on something similar, but from the rebels side.
Looks like the gauntlet has been thrown down.

We really love this new update. you’ve been doing fantastically.

New animation is a great as before if not better. Still love the new
details and the little fight pilot animations you thew in (just how do they
see each others others hand signals inside those Imp fighters?) and the
detail to the source material is just mind blowing. I’m glad I’m not the
only one who bought some vehicle books.

I like the new top Gun-esque music, but it does feel out of place in this
universe setting. I think the previous KATOR music fit better. I’m hoping
you eventually get help from some VA’s and a fan composer since it looks
like you’ve thrown plenty of new lip animations.

Love your work, hope you go farther than a star fighter.
