      @Warped The report says they found Coronavirus RNA on the ship. They apparently did not test for infectious virus particles. It is the lipid and proetin “coat” of the virus particle that is disrupted by time, soap, alcohol, cleansers. When the coat is destroyed or disabled, the RNA remains and will be detectable a very long time.

    Thank you for this!! I have had questions about everything you talked about and good to know how to disinfect the food products!! I wear gloves when I go to the store and throw them away before getting into my car then wipe down my hands with a disinfectant wipe along with my stearing wheel. My daily prayers are with all you healthcare providers and our first responders.

    The glitter is a great analogy. I’ve had little bits of glitter hanging around for weeks after art projects, even though I’ve done my best to get rid of it!

      I had to laugh about the glitter. We have a wood topped island in our kitchen. 2 years ago our daughter-in-law turned 30 and we had a big surprise party. Glitter was involved and to this day, I still have glitter embedded in the wood of the island top. I HATE GLITTER!

      @kcbknitter And that goes to show how porous wood is and why you shouldn’t cut raw meat on wooden cutting boards. Impossible to get thoroughly clean.

      My best friend’s mom likes to refer to glitter as craft herpes because it gets everywhere easily and you can never completely get rid of it lol

      Yes! My husband is a stage hand at a theater that does Christmas Carol every year and there’s always glitter with Christmas Past. It never fully gets cleaned up at the theater and shows up in his clothes for ages. Glitter is indeed forever.

      Glitter is an okay analogy, but not great. What isn’t being factored in here is the half-life of the virus. It becomes dramatically less infectious over a period of hours. What is more important is washing your hands before eating and practicing standard hygiene processes.

    Deepest gratitude to you for taking the time to post this video. 
    My husband is immunocompromised so I take extra care upon returning from shopping. The markets where I live in France only allow a limited number of people in the store at one time so we can maintain a safe 2-meter distance and there is ample spacing while in line. I also remove my shoes and outer clothing (sweats, scarf which are washed) before I enter and wash my glasses, hands, and arms before unpacking. I bring my own cart (common in Europe) and unpack on a clean counter while he is in the other room. I wash all fruit (because people still pick up several pieces before selecting but I do have a problem with onions so I leave those outside. After everything is put away I go through and disinfect the surfaces, door handles and frames and cart which lives outside.

    As soon as you stated: “I’m a Health Care Provider” in the first 30 seconds, I gave this video a Thumbs Up. That was good enough enough for me no matter what came next. So thank You for being on the front lines of this crisis. I continued to watch the whole thing and and the info you provide is excellent advice.
    My wife found your video and shared it with me because I am the one doing the shopping while her and the kids stay home. Just last night we were discussing how I practice some of the suggestions you mention here. But we picked up a few more tips.       I’m a retired perioperative RN living in a small seaside town in Mexico. I must be extra careful because of my age (74) and because my community (outside of the expats and Canadians) doesn’t practice social isolation consistently. Thanks you for this video.

    I have been doing all these things, but am glad to know that I’m not being overly cautious and that these things works…But by the same token, how about things in the fridge – like carrots, yogurt containers and packaging – does the temperature in the fridge keep the virus alive?       Maybe you could empty the fridge using the same technique as when he brings in the shopping, then clean the fridge, and all the things that are in plastic or other packaging and put them back. It would at the very least make you feel better?

    I’ve been doing this since the start of the pandemic and friends and family teased me about being neurotic. I’m going to continue to do it and follow other guidelines in hopes of keeping my family, myself and others safe. Thank you for this information and thank you for everything you are doing.

      It’s a lot better to be teased than sick. Or worse: Dead. It’s impossible to know if you took the correct steps until it’s all over and behind you. I’d rather be overly cautious than in the hospital. I just hope it’s enough =(

      I’m from Spain and I’m literally even washing tomatoes with soap before putting them on a salad. People can laugh all they want. You may have heard how bad are things over here, this is a nightmare.

    I think it is also important to remember that we know a great deal about this virus and people are taking precautions. But, what were they doing before we knew? I think that we need to remember that EVERY DAY people need to follow good infection control practices-wash your hands-frequently, wash your produce, cough/sneeze into your elbow, stay home when you’re sick-this is nothing new but we all panic. I’m an Infection Preventionist in a Skilled Nursing Facility-I panic. I appreciate you taking the time to do this video and provide education. One comment in particular-you picked up the fabric sack off the floor and put it on your clean side of the table, now it’s contaminated. hindsight is 20/20 and everyone has a belly button. You really did a great job! Thank you!

    The RNA found on the cruise ship wasn’t infectious. it’s just like finding DNA from someone who may have been in a room through a flake of skin or strand of hair. It’s proof that it was there, but it can’t hurt anyone.

      If you look for the article on the cruise ship that was published by NBC at the very end there’s a correction statement about rna being found not live virus.

But you can Google CDC says coronavirus RNA found in Princess Cruise ship cabins up to 17 days after passengers left and at the very end of the CNBC article you will see “Correction: This story was updated to reflect that SARS-CoV-2 RNA, not live virus, was identified on surfaces in cruise ship cabins up to 17 days after cabins were vacated on the Diamond Princess.”

    This was thoughtful and focused and practical. I wish that the CDC had posted something as useful as this on its website.
    It is a constantly changing set of recommendations and data – so we need to be flexible and thoughtful.

    I’m impressed. . 2 things I would have added:
    – Let the disinfectant stand for 2 minutes to work properly
    – As an alternative to disinfecting everything, you can leave groceries in the trunk or garage for 3+ days.

    THE MAILBOX: Your mailman (or mailwoman) touches every mailbox – some his hands are contaminated. His hands touches YOUR mail and YOUR mailbox.
    1. Remove mail from mailbox
    2. Walk to your recycle bin
    3. throw all junk mail into the recycle bin to reduce the amount of mail that will be carried into the home.
    4. You can open mail and read what it is about – in case it is something you must act on immediately.
    5. Carry the mail into your home and place it in a room you don’t use
    6. Wash hands
    7. After 4 days – the mail is safe to touch – you can touch the mail, pay bills, etc.
    There are separate stacks of mail – one stack per day.
    Is all this a pain? Yes, the life you save may be your own.

      I’ve started doing this: Take a brown paper lunch bag. Write “Came [and the date].” Take bag to mailbox. Take mail out of box, glance through to make sure it’s addressed to us. Put it in paper bag. Put paper bag just inside front door. Three days (could probably be one day but I tend to over-do) later, open mail. Reuse bag by updating the date on the bag. I leave all packages also by the door for at least 3 days. Perhaps it would be better to leave the mail and packages in the garage.

      I’m leaving all mail and boxes for 48 hours prior to handling, hoping to be well past the 24 hour limit of coronavirus on cardboard

    Also don’t forget to sanitize your hands after handling your change from cashier,after putting groceries into car,pumping gas BEFORE touching car door handle and getting into your car.Love this video!!!!
