The phone is dead. And it’s ringing.

Director Scott Derrickson returns to his terror roots and partners again with the foremost brand in the genre, Blumhouse, with a new horror thriller.
Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.
Starring four-time Oscar® nominee Ethan Hawke in the most terrifying role of his career and introducing Mason Thames in his first ever film role, The Black Phone is produced, directed, and co-written by Scott Derrickson, the writer-director of Sinister, The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Marvel’s Doctor Strange.

The film’s screenplay is by Derrickson & C. Robert Cargill (Doctor Strange, Sinister franchise), based on the award-winning short story by Joe Hill from his New York Times bestseller 20th Century Ghosts. The film is produced by Derrickson & Cargill’s Crooked Highway and presented by Universal and Blumhouse. Jason Blum, Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill are producers on the film, which is executive produced by Ryan Turek and Christopher H. Warner.

I remember seeing this during the Walking Dead. The short story is also amazing and I can’t fucking wait

  2. Jordan Sparte says:

Looks genuinely creepy, however Blumhouse has to stop showing the whole freaking movie in the trailers!

@James Ward Certainly everything on this trailer is out of order.

@Andres Vazquez Every trailer does this

    • Insane about film says:

Took the words right out of my mouth. Unless what we see is the kid escaping is actually a dream by that girl or the boy himself imagining his escape. Let’s hope whatever surprises are in store are kept under-wraps.

    • Cory Smith says:

Exactly. Like the trailer of Scream 5 barely showed any major moments and was able to keep a couple of things as hidden as possible. This showed way too much. They should’ve just ended by the moment they reveal the dead kids telling him that they can help him. Cut. End of trailer. Simple as that

  3. Chetan Bisht says:

Mike Flanagan himself praised this movie, but warned the hardcore horror fans not to expect the jumpscares and chills that one would expect from Sinister.

    • RcGuitarCovers says:

@Lee Claxton Are you serious? flanagan is like one of the best horror directors right now dude. Just because he doesnt rely on jumpscares or mindless blood and gore doesnt mean he is not good. he relies more on telling a compelling story then adding a horror element. that is a brilliant horror filmaking.

    • andre jamena says:

@Lee Claxton Sounds like you know little or nothing about horror. Then again, whatever scares you scares you.

    • Merdicano says:

@RcGuitarCovers Just by that description, you’ve really sold me on seeing his movies and work. Because that’s what I look for when it comes to the horror genre

    • Lee Claxton says:

@RcGuitarCovers what about Spielberg or James wong?

  4. Dylan Hoang says:

Ethan Hawke elevates everything! But this does look very competently made and shot. Derrickson is hit or miss with me but this does look promising!

  5. Mercury says:

The trailer wants you to save money and protect viewers from covid by showing you the whole movie.

  6. NATEDOG BEAT30 says:

  7. P.A.B. says:

Ethan is great in everything he does. Scott derrickson is a good director too. I hope the film isn’t to much like sinister with the kids but cool concept and original.

  8. Brydell Cocky says:

Looks like a really good movie but dang yall giving so much away in the trailer… please stop doing that!

  9. Gorey Bits says:

I have so much love and respect for Scott Derrickson’s work. This is looking to be his best yet.

  10. Purposeless Rabbitholes says:

As a loyal Spillio, I’ll always watch anything Carlyle— I mean, Cargill does
