EXPLAINING The Starter Pokemon Battle Royale from @TerminalMontage! 💥

HELLO! TerminalMontage just released another Pokemon Battle Royale! And once again I helped by doing the research and writing. Now in THIS video, I’m going to explain some of the finer details, as well as why certain things happen, including why certain Pokemon fared so well and even won!

Gnoggin, hosted by its creator Lockstin, is a show delving into the mysteries of Pokemon! (and other games sometimes too). Explaining everything there is to explain! Why is each Pokemon given the type it has? What are their origins? What is the lore of the Pokemon world and the design inspirations? And what does it all have to do with alchemy? Let’s Go find out!

Bonus deleted scenes for the bottom of the description!
One joke I wrote but Jeremy (rightfully) cut was Eevee finding a Waterstone, looking at it with vehement disgust, and then moving on… if you know you know.
Serperior and Quaquaval originally had a much more intense… binding moment… it was reduced to under a second for your sake… I, I really don’t know what was going on with me while writing this one…

You’ll notice there’s a semi-secret second Eevee at the end of the Eeveeloutions scene. Earlier drafts of this royale feature multiple copies of some of the starters, such as Partner Pikachu AND regular Pikachu from Yellow, or 2 different Rowlets for example, one for Sun and Moon, and one for Legends Arceus. The semi-secret second Eevee has a Katana, it’s the Eevee from Conquest specifically, it was left as just a small visual gag/nod to that. Also at one point, I considered including the many starter Pokemon from Pokemon Battle Revolution too, but ultimately that would add too many Pokemon that most people would just be confused by… So we left it to the main game’s Starter Pokemon.

HOOOO BOI! That last fight was INTENSE! Had a lot of fun working on this with you and loved the analysis and reasoning behind everything!

  2. pokepro game says:

I really love that somehow sooble was able to survive until right before the final battle and actually took out a pokemon, that was funny

  3. Cheryl says:

There IS a counter amongst the starters to blaziken, a really good one in fact: Skeledirge

Fire ghost type means resisting/immunity to both of blaziken’s STABs and having unaware means no amount of swords dance is going to break through it.

Favorite moment without a doubt was the double Decidueye beat down. The hilarity of Infernape dealing with it and Samurott only to repeat the process with their Hisuian forms a moment later was golden.

  5. SpaceW says:

I think it’s weird you say Water doesn’t have much going for it because it’s one of the best defensive types in the game right next to steel and is one of the most popular terra types for that reason. Sure, it doesn’t have a lot of resistances but that just means you can count on not taking that much from literally everything but grass/electric

  6. Skull says:

I love how impactful swampert was during the battle royale, but can’t help but feel the entire line got cheated. Mudkip (understandably) got crumpled immediately, marshtomp got (unjustly) paired with quaxwell to get beat into the ground for being ugly, and then the funny grass monkey survives a direct hit and a who knows how deep fall, climbs back up, and just deletes swampert while it’s in the middle of being badass

    • Sanguine Deserter says:

Tbf Swampert could’ve died from a sneeze coming from any grass type, they were just prolonging its existence for it to look cool and justified, which imo it IS. The rest of the line i agree with though

    • Comet says:

Your pokemon caused a catastrophic event, got multiple kills, and could’ve been instakilled by 1/3 the cast.

    • Ben Victim says:

@Sanguine Deserter Here’s the thing.. If Fire type dominates and wipe out all the grass before swampert dies to grass, then swampert should win.

Gorillaboom already got punished in the animation. If they wanted swmapert to fall to a grass type, it should have been a lot earlier in the animation instead of just some random near the end.

    • Alessandro Mazzini says:

Swampert death makes no literal sense, should’ve won

    • Alessandro Mazzini says:

@CometAt that point of the Battle there were no more grass types 🙂 rillaboom was dead before

  7. Kale1300 says:

I must randomly mention how incredibly underrated Pokémon Comquest is. I never see anyone talk about it but it’s one of my personal favorite Pokémon spin offs

  8. Polly! says:

It’s been mentioned but man is it painful hearing ground repeatedly referred to as resisting fire 😭

Also my boy Primarina got done so dirty. Water/fairy is one of the best defensive typings in the game and though fire resists fairy it’s special attack stat should’ve been enough to cleave through way more of the competition. The fact that it lasted less time than decidueye did feels criminal

    • Addison_V_Ertisement says:

And the fact that it was beaten by Incineroar, a pokemon it resists 2x, even when its first attack should have killed Incineroar, is just total bs.

    • Burgers says:

Or how the island got hit by two earthquakes and a tsunami and somehow the fire types were affected the least

    • Binx Waxcap says:

Can you calm down? This was meant to not be taken seriously but yet here you are.

    • Polly! says:

@Binx WaxcapDude, what are you talking about? I was just talking about Pokémon game mechanics on a video about who would win based on Pokémon game mechanics. Who is taking this too seriously? Maybe you need to calm down.

    • Addison_V_Ertisement says:

@binxwaxcap7832  The only person that needs to calm down is you. You’re getting butthurt just because a stranger on the internet is explaining a correction to someone who isn’t even yourself.

  9. SientjeL1 says:

Serperior deserved so much more screentime

  10. says:

I’m still confused as to why Delphox was eliminated by falling into the crack caused by earthquake. It is able to see into the future to tell what happens and has access to psychic. You even mentioned Delphox’s ability to see into the future based on their origin…

    • Angel of Light says:

Delphox ain’t popular nor competitively viable, so, as much as it contradicts it’s own origin lore, it was going to lose.
Which made me really annoyed, especially since le grass monke survived.

    • HallowedKeeper_ says:

The priority is gaming, followed by lore then TCG, game wise….Delphox is on the weak end of the power scale

    • EasyModeGamer says:

I don’t think they were complaining about it losing, just the way it lost didn’t make sense.

    • says:

The interesting thing is that in the original video Delphox was in the top 10 pokemon of winning it so they must’ve considered it somewhat. I just find it interesting their reasoning isn’t explained.

    • Snowcold says:

@Angel of LightRillaboom’s grassy terrain halves the damage from the move earthquake specifically, and it resisted it.
Delphox’s future sight might have been inactive due to the… herbs around it lol
