Also, a big shoutout to abney317, Kazuya, Ce_Mec, Weatherton, and Forest64 for their invaluable contributions to the research. That last quote: “So instead of saying something silly, like I think it will be over very soon and it’s been a crazy ride, I’m going to say that this game will never be over and the ride will only get crazier, and I am just participating in one small part of the middle of the ride and there are many talented people who helped build the ride before me and there’ll be many talented people who help finish off the ride after me.” – darbian 2016

So eloquent for being spoken in the moment.

“…one small part in the middle of the ride” is such a powerful line.

      Carl Sagan-esque almost lmao

I miss darb, hope he’s doing well whatever he’s doing now.

That’s one small step for Darb… one giant leap for Darbkind.

As your archrival, I can attest that this video is Pretty Good. Also, what you chose to end the video on is absolutely perfect.

  4. Josh says:

It’s sad that you can’t experience your own videos like the rest of us because they are truly masterpieces.

  5. Celestial Waffle says:

The fact that I felt like there were no villains in this video is a testimony to your storytelling.

  6. Havoc says:

I was really rooting for Abney to keep the record and seeing luck be his demise over and over was heartbreaking

    • Lebrin Jims says:

Yeah, but his safe play in his most recent world record run just to ensure that he got the record instead of pushing his limits was probably a mistake. Easy to say in hindsight, but he should’ve maximized the potential of the single run where everything did go his way, pushed it sub 23, and it would still be his

    • WingedBunny says:

@Lebrin JimsI disagree. In hindsight, we can say that sure, but what if he was risky and ended up making a mistake that cost him the run? Then we’d be saying he should have played it safe to ensure the world record.

    • Lebrin Jims says:

      @WingedBunny 100% true. We’ll never know

  7. Brennan Harris says:

At 44:40 I could tell we were watching Kazuya’s run because his red shell setup looks different than Abney’s. That’s when I knew this video had me fully invested, lol!

    • Austin Fletcher says:

The way he cuts so sharply inward, it’s like watching an elite pitcher. No shame in being a Justin Verlander or Max Scherzer when the Shohei Ohtanis or the Corbin Burneses come along.

  8. Jack Dunlavey says:

Getting namedropped in a Summoning Salt video title is an honour only previously given to Matt Turk. Congratulations, abney317!

    • ParkNPlay says:

I say Matthias Rustemeyer gets an honorary spot on the list because the only reason his name isn’t in the title is because it isn’t easily readable

    • The Blue Phoenix: Captain Gamer says:

@ParkNPlaywell more like he could never accomplish his goal and then he retired due to Mark(or whatever his name is)

    • Rocky712 - Let´s Plays says:

@ParkNPlay Is it really that hard to read? Even for native english speakers it shouldn´t be difficult.

    • CrimsonDevil_Rias says:

      Dan Burbank.
He was record hoarding and got the 32/32 NSC crown.
This was a time of glory for Dan, but a time of resentment for the other players, including Rustemeyer himself. As a result (as far as I know), all of his records were striked from the MKWRs website and he was forever banned because of that record hoarding incident.

  9. BrodyMK64 says:

I was lucky enough to meet Forest at this year’s PA Meet. Was truly remarkable hearing first hand accounts from him just across the table from me. An absolute legend!

love that we are in an era where these kind of discoveries are literally recorded IRL. so goddamn cool
