I think the new minimum games played for an award will help keep players on the court. I like this rule.

  2. DHB says:

The 20 minute rule could be very beneficial in terms of load management. If you can get 20 quality minutes where they can still be effective, I call it a win, also In terms of the fans that do come to a game to see a star player and they don’t play, that can all be negated if you know you’re gonna see them play for at least 20 good minutes

    • david johnson says:

Exactly. I’m a mavs fan all but guaranteeing 20 minutes of each Kyrie and Luka is worth it. I imagine they will still regularly sit at least 1 on the second of back to backs but tickets are expensive and I would be furious if I shell out that cash and they both sat on a random saturday game.

    • Rajas Kane says:

Give me 20 good men, and take down Stannis’s camp.

  3. Börki says:

I think a in season tournament only for the last ranking teams would be better. Give the low ranking teams a chance to show what they’re capable of and gives them a chance to catch some money for their build up

    • Christian Brooks says:

Should be for the teams not in the play offs, maybe the winner gets higher chance for first pick in the draft

  4. Dominic Maluski says:

What happened to the mid season tournament consisting of all the teams lower on the standings? I feel like that’s a much better way to go about it. Cities with poverty franchises get to see their guys play in games that matter, and it won’t just be a preview of the playoffs

    • Wylfo says:

That sounds pretty cool honestly. Just would have to manage the workload so that it doesn’t impact the regular season so much

    • Dylxan327 says:

Cool idea but I wonder if that will only worsen the tanking problem already seen in non contending teams

    • Caleb White says:

      m

    • Cobalt Crow says:

Yeah I like this idea. The group stage could be with the bottom 18 teams (7th – 15th teams, based on standings at the beginning of the tournament), with 6 groups of 3 based on record (7, 8, 9 in a group, 10, 11, 12, in a group, 13, 14, 15 in a group)

    • Kabelo Mav says:

They should get some Euro league teams involved. I think it would be something to watch.

  5. andres delbusto says:

I honestly thought the mid season tournament would mean less games played, kinda like the All-Star Game where they get a small break aaaand I thought the price would be more interesting. Imagine having increased odds in the lotery or having a different salary cap than the rest of the league for winning, or even maybe being able to do 1 trade even after trade deadline with whatever team you want, or having homecort advantage despite being a lowe seed, something crazy man, not money. But welp, guess it’ll be funny

    • Jack Walker says:

I was thinking the winner gets the guaranteed 1st seed in the playoffs no matter what their record is by the end of the regular season. Or something even crazier like getting the 1st seed AND a bye from the first round of the playoffs (although I have no idea how that would be possible).

    • Jack Walker says:

I guess if you wanted to do the 1st round bye thing you would disqualify the 8th seed of whichever conference the team who won the in-season tournament from being in the playoffs, which would be insane and put so much hype around it (not saying this is a good idea).

    • Jack Walker says:

Although now that I think about it, this might lead to teams just not playing their starters for the rest of the season if they have a guaranteed 1st seed in the playoffs, which would suck.

    • drichburg81 says:

I’m with you. Either reward the team that wins the in game tournament with what you stated or the winning team gets an additional second round pick after the main draft is complete or luxury tax forgiveness or something. Money’s not going to be a motivator for these guys.

  6. Ronald Voivod says:

Crazy how the mid season tournament might cause championship teams to intentionally lose so that they play less games in a season, while non-contending teams might try their hardest to win to prove their skill. That would literally be the worst outcome for every NBA fan.

    • Motrell Morrid says:

It’s the money. Their singing the players for so much, at this rate the league gonna have an before season tournament and after season tournaments. Then they had the nerve to talk about shortening to season ?? Hell nah they want these players to play over 100 games tbh

    • NickDaBaller says:

What he said in the video was wrong. Teams won’t play 2 less games they will be scheduled later during the season to get to the 82. The 83 games for the tournament finals teams are true though. I don’t think anyone should stress over 1 extra game, especially if the league is presumably gonna be on the lookout for that kind of behaviour.

    • Bombaclaet WOW says:

they should just do it ez and add relegations like the rest off the world

    • Lyn Pendry says:

@Bombaclaet WOWrelegation doesnt work for american sports

  7. THEREgoes MILLER says:

Bruh , the amount of effort and data you put into your videos is remarkable !

its like you have a full espn analyst team at your disposal but you dont !

    kudos man !

  8. Threefive says:

If you wanna see how a mid season tournament would go and how the normal favourites might not win, look at cup competitions in the English premier League, the big teams typically play a weaker side in the tournaments to focus on the main trophies . It means developing players on teams with superstars will get more game time and smaller teams can have something to look forward to.

    • ibrahim says:

this is the best comment in the chat…. premier league teams do not play the best players for 90 minutes against a weak team to preserve them and also giving the developing younger players more experience and exposure

  9. Joseph Lawler says:

The mid-season tournament could be interesting for the trade deadline. It could build star role players like we see every post season with the benefit of other teams looking for match ups.

  10. jewing says:

My take on the in-season tournament: it happens pretty much everywhere else in the world. In most places, it has a long and prestigious history. fans and teams definitely do care about it. For the smaller teams, it’s a great opportunity to run for something other than the championship, and even teams from lower leagues play on them so a great Cinderella story is always a possibility. For the elite teams, it’s another stamp of their power. Also, because of the single-elimination nature of it, every game is very high stakes, and sometimes it feels more intense than a championship final series game. In some places, it even used as a qualifier for international tournaments, raising the stakes even higher. All in all, super fun and intense to watch, and i hope the NBA will know to take these factors from it. The problem is, the NBA being the no relegation, no international, no soul league it is kinda limiting some of these factors.
