Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin was killed Wednesday after a plane he was aboard crashed northwest of Moscow, according to Russian authorities. Prigozhin led a short-lived mutiny attempt against the Kremlin in June.

There are very few reasons why a mostly intact plane falls out of the sky, smoke trailing, straight down onto the ground. A surface to air missile is one of those reasons.
Or a small explosive planted in the engine block or somewhere tucked away near critical gear. Both results end the same
